Who we are
SafeStarr (“we”, “us”) operates the SafeStarr website at safestarr.com and the SafeStarr mobile app on iOS and Android (together, the “Service”). This policy explains what information we handle when you use the Service.
Information we process
On your device. The app stores saved locations, route history, display and unit preferences, and similar settings locally on your phone so the app works offline and remembers your setup between sessions.
When you use the safety map. We sync map data — crime and safety points, your community report submissions, and driving-session presence — to our cloud database so the map and Driving Mode alerts stay current. That typically includes your approximate location while the app is in use (and during active driving navigation, when enabled), report details you submit, and a device identifier.
What we do not collect. The Service does not require an email/password account for the core map. We do not ask for payment card details, contacts, or photos to use the safety map features described above.
Website. Our marketing site may receive standard server and CDN logs (for example IP address, user agent, and requested URL) needed to operate and secure the site. If you allow it in the on-site prompt, we also collect anonymized usage information to understand how the site is used and improve our service. You can deny that collection; your choice is remembered on this device.
How we use information
We use this information to:
- Show crime and safety data near you on the map
- Power Driving Mode alerts along your route
- Review and publish community safety reports
- Remember your local settings and preferences
- Keep the Service reliable, secure, and abuse-resistant
- With your permission, improve the website using anonymized usage information
We do not sell your personal information.
Sharing
Approved community reports are visible to other users of the safety map. We use infrastructure providers (for example cloud hosting and realtime database services, and third-party safety/crime data sources) to run the Service. They process data only to provide those services to us. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service and our users.
Retention
Local data stays on your device until you clear app data or delete the app. Cloud data (submitted reports, driving-session presence) remains in our database while relevant and may be removed as it ages out or when you request deletion as described on our Delete account page.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You can disable location access or Driving Mode in your device settings, clear local app data, or uninstall the app. To request deletion of cloud-synced data associated with you, follow the steps on safestarr.com/delete-account.
